Wedding Cake Information

Fillings

We use the best available ingredients on the market and, where possible, organic or locally sourced produce.  We have a selection of naturally flavoured sponges and delicious fillings for each tier. You may wish to have the traditional vanilla sponge or rich fruit, you may wish to vary each tier – the choice is yours.  So here are some suggestions to tempt you:-

Our rich fruit cake, made to our own traditional recipe which has been handed down to us, is flavoured with best quality rum or brandy unless, of course, you prefer to have it alcohol free. It is coated in marzipan with a soft smooth covering of sugar paste, or royal, icing.

Cuttings, Sizes and Servings

The cutting of the wedding cake is a long standing tradition that goes back many years and symbolises the couple’s first task they perform together. Firstly, make sure the wedding cake table is sturdy & level.  Use a clean sharp wedding cake knife & use the tip of the knife to cut the 1st slice.  Wife knife clean between slices.

The cake cutting normally takes place at the Wedding reception and typically begins with the bride and groom making the first two cuts. The bride will place her right hand on the handle of the knife and the groom puts his right hand over hers. Begin cutting on the bottom tier with the point of the knife and make two cuts. Remove the small slice and place on a plate. To take it all the way, they can act out the tradition by offering each other a piece of cake to symbolise commitment to sharing and supporting each other.

After this momentous ceremony and the photos have been taken, the cake is normally taken to be dismantled, cut up and served by your caterers.

Cake Stands

All wedding cakes are made on double depth, very secure iced cake boards. We don’t hire cake stands but we do find that most venues will have one they can hire or lend to you. Alternatively there are many different styles to be found online and most cake decorating shops continue to hire traditional styles.

Allergies

If you or your guests have special dietary requirements it is best that you contact us with the details and we can work out how best we can help you.

Plain Iced Cakes

If you prefer to decorate your wedding cake yourself, or have your florist add fresh flowers, we offer a range of plain, smooth finish cakes, the same high standard as our own designs, but left completely un-decorated.

We offer round or square options of 3, 4 or 5 tiers, which will be covered in your choice of either white or ivory soft sugar paste, with an option of matching ribbons at the base of each tier. (We do not offer 1 or 2 tier)

You may choose from either our delicious vanilla sponge or other fillings from our menu.  Prices vary depending upon filling.

Please contact us if you need any further information.
